Welcome to Pretty Marsh

Dear Friends,

Welcome to our home away from home. We are the seven lucky grandchildren of Elisabeth and Cush McGiffert, who had the foresight to buy this beautiful ocean front property on the "quiet side" of the popular Mount Desert Island, Maine. What Pretty Marsh lacks in social activity, it gains in a secluded beauty. Our two (separate) houses are nestled among pines and oaks, both with lovely East-looking harbor views, and access to watercraft and a stretch of rocky beach.

Plus it is only a 20 minute drive from almost anywhere on the island, so you get the best of both worlds – access to fun things to do and the comfort of a peaceful retreat.

Whether you are looking for a quiet time by the sea to read and rest, or an active vacation of hiking, water sports, and terrific food, Mt. Desert Island is the place for you. Or both! You can really have it all in Pretty Marsh: seclusion and adventure, with activities for all interests and ages.

As kids, our parents grew up in Pretty Marsh over the summers (and one winter). So did we. And now our kids – Elisabeth and Cush’s 12 great grandchildren – are doing the same. What a gift! We hope that you will visit our home and have the opportunity to experience what a precious place it is.

Happy Vacationing!
